Dead Space
A severed hand and partial forearm clad in futuristic armor floats lifelessly in the center of the cover. Covered in speckles of crimson blood, the hand’s tan fingers are exposed to the vast emptiness of space. Minor cuts and stains of blood covers the appendages. The beige metal armor covering the backhand and wrist looks worn and damaged. The dark brown fabric that covers the limb is tattered and torn. Around the amputation there are numerous bits and pieces of what appears to be bone and shards of broken-off metal, which appear to also be sprayed in the scarlet colored blood.
In the backdrop is the vast deepness of space. Towards the top of the cover stars can be seen in the distance. It seems that an auburn brown space cloud or perhaps a galaxy can be seen, giving off a very dreary look to the cover. With the stars also displaying a tannish hue adds to the effect of the gloomy feel. The outer space background gives off a feeling of forsaken isolation or abandonment.
At the bottom of the cover there is a metal space ship of some sort. Not much can be easily seen, but in the corner there seems to be some sort of extension of the ship, perhaps an antenna or reinforced armor for the ship. The bottom is covered by the darken ship, except the part closest to the severed limb. From that point there is a light shining from the ship.
With the entire cover portraying a cooper hue that gives a feel of rustic dread. The game itself is based in the future where natural supplies are limited and the player must survive against an alien outbreak, which kills everyone on a large mining vessel that the player is on. I believe the cover complements what the game is about; Dead Space is a survival horror over-the-shoulder shooter with tons of scary, gory and horrific moments.
